Looking for the best hostels in Paris? Not all Paris hostels are created equal, but we’re here to help.

Paris, the City of Lights, is famed for its architecture, culture, museums, history, food, and staggering man-made beauty. One thing this spectacular city is NOT known for, however, is cheap hotels and hostels. In fact, there is a surprising lack of great hostels in Paris. Backpackers and budget travelers in Paris might experience a bit of sticker shock upon arrival.

In general, Paris can be a hard city to visit on a shoestring or backpacking budget. You can expect to pay around €2.00 for a coffee, €8.00 for a pint of beer at a bar, and €12.00 to get into the Louvre. Dorm beds are no exception either. You will pay a minimum of €32.00 a night during high season for a bed anywhere near central Paris, unless you have magical powers. In which case, please get in touch with us, we have always wanted to meet a superhero.

Airbnb might be a better bet for the budget minded if you’re traveling in a group. However, if you’re flying solo and want to meet like-minded travelers, backpackers, and nomads while visiting Paris, hostels are still your best bet. So we’ve put together a list of the best hostels in Paris for backpackers and budget travelers to take some of the stress out of planning your trip.

What Makes the Best Hostels in Paris the Best?

We have put together this list based on what we personally expect out of a great hostel in Paris. Clean rooms, comfortable dorm beds with power outlets, secure luggage storage, friendly atmosphere that encourages interaction (but doesn’t force it), and a communal kitchen are all super important aspects for Paris hostels to possess in our eyes, and we prioritize them when suggesting a place to stay.

All of these are factors when it comes to making our selection of the best hostels in Paris.

St Christopher’s Inn Paris Gare du Nord

belushi's bar, best hostels in paris

Looking for a party hostel in Paris? Well, St Christopher’s Gare de Nord Hostel is that, and more!

St Christopher’s is a big modern hostel that is located a two minute walk from the station it’s named after. Dorm guests are all afforded some measure of privacy with individual curtains for beds, and each bunk comes outfitted with a USB plug, electrical outlet, reading lamp, and locker.

This Paris hostel has a Belushi’s bar and restaurant on-site where guests can mingle with each other and take advantage of a 25% discount off food and two for one drink specials. The bar itself is enough to make this one of the best party hostels in Paris.

The hostel is clean, equipped with WiFi thorough the building, and has a continental breakfast. Staff will also help you book a tours and activities.

The downside to the “mega hostel” model is that it lacks intimacy. It’s easy to get lost in the shuffle. St Christopher’s is also NOT the cheapest hostel in town, there is no kitchen to make your own food in, and the bathrooms are on the smaller side. That said, it’s still a gem of a Paris hostel in a city that has surprisingly few amazing hostels.
